Aside from the lacking sisterhood element, the elements involving magic suffered without Prue as well. Vanquishing demons started to feel more like a sport later on in the show, and so often the demon-of-the-week stories were dragged out to fill an episode when Piper could have simply used her molecular acceleration power and often does.
With Prue, vanquishing demons was actually difficult. They had to put actual work into things, like creating spells and potions. Above all, what was lacking was the quality fight scenes with the girls and demons. One of the major downfalls with Paige was, at the beginning of Season 5, having her give up her promotion to social worker and become a full-time witch. We missed out on valuable opportunities to watch Paige explore her career, as we did with the other sisters.
And, instead of feeling like another Charmed One, she felt like she was off in her own magical world. Piper and Phoebe were both so focused on love and life, so all of the magical duties fell to Paige.
Instead of trying to rectify this, the writers excuse this mistake by saying Paige is just independent and too used to being an only child, needing to be independent from her sisters.
Altogether, Charmed felt much more grounded with Prue than with Paige. The Paige seasons are still enjoyable… in different ways. There is a reason the show went on for five seasons without Prue, even if the initial appeal of the series slowly disappeared. But things kind of went off of the rails there, particularly during Seasons Season 4 follows more of the path that the show took with Prue with some large exceptions before things were shaken up entirely.
The charm of the relationship between the sisters with Prue, how magic was utilized and intertwined within their lives, and feeling like a show set in the real world brought in viewers. She then started using Ben as her medium for complicated spells in her quest for answers.
While astral projecting into her mind, she met with a remnant of Patience , the witch whose body she inhabited, and realized the Grimoire was doing something to her. Patience, however, insisted that it was all her doing because she was refusing to let go of her role as a former Charmed One and was causing pain to her family. The two started fighting. Prue, with power from the All, easily destroyed Patience. Meanwhile, her sisters learned what was causing them pain from Kyra, and took a potion to protect themselves from her.
Since its effect was only temporary, they needed to find a solution to the problem. She also learned that demons were returning from the Demonic Wasteland which was the body of an Old One to Earth through a vessel, but didn't know who it was at the time. While the Charmed Ones were continuously attacked by their otherwise-vanquished enemies, Prue went looking for answers to solve the problem. She, on one occasion, summoned Neena , the first witch, to find out how to preserve her family.
The woman suggested sharing the All with her sisters. They were in the middle of chanting the needed spell when Zankou attacked and interrupted the chant. After vanquishing the demon, Tyler appeared and everyone realized the truth: he was the vessel. Prue wanted to stop him, but he escaped. When he became possessed by Tuatha , the sisters found him at the Scales' house and a fight broke out.
Piper, Phoebe, Paige, and Kareem fought the demons the evil witch brought out while Prue fought Tuatha. The woman disrupted the protection potion's magic, causing Piper, Phoebe and Paige to fall. Prue then astral projected inside Tuatha to confront Heremus , the demon who was using Tyler as a vessel, and tried to rip him out of his body.
Heremus disappeared, and all seemed well when Prue's presence seemingly no longer affected her sisters or their children.
However, later that night, she went to attack an entire student body at Knox Academy , turning them into vessels for the extinct Old Ones. Prue turned hostile and started attacking her family. Her sisters learned the truth and had Tyler lock her up in another plane. While everyone looked for answers to the problem, the Tribunal kidnapped the people who were influenced by Prue's magic, namely Tyler, Coop, Ben, and Kyra. They experimented on Tyler and extracted memories of Prue's interaction with Heremus and the times he was possessed by demons.
Prue sensed Tyler's fatigue and easily escaped the empty realm. The Tribunal tried to defend themselves with their powers, but Prue easily massacred them all.
She then teleported Kyra, Tyler, and Ben away while confronting Coop, who she blamed for leaving her sister. Phoebe had the premonition and teleported to Cupid's Temple to stop her.
But she proved to be too strong, and soon Prue had her at choking point. Piper and Paige arrived and tried to save them, but were only able to save Phoebe. A few hours later, Prue and Dominus had their sacrifices gathered in Salem and readied to resurrect the Old Ones.
Paige's husband, Henry, unexpectedly joined them in the cause. They had a brief reunion before Heremus took over again, and Prue forced them out of her body. A fight ensued, and before long things turned for the worse when Prue shocked Amelia to break Andy's connection to Earth, petrified Henry, and stabbed Paige with the Ancient Athame , which had the power to destroy its victim's soul.
On the brink of death, Paige orbed herself, Piper and Prue back to the manor, where the bond of the Charmed Ones shifted back to Prue. Phoebe sensed it as well, and used a spell to make Prue remember herself as the sister they grew up with. Prue was finally able to break through Heremus' control and realize her evil doings. Knowing she cannot live as long as her life caused others pain, she begged Piper to help her.
The two shared a tearful moment before Piper stabbed her with the Ancient Athame. The athame's powerful magic collided with the All, which released it, sent Prue back to the afterlife while resurrecting Patience and Paige in the process. Meanwhile, Ben, Kyra, Tyler, Kareem, Amelia, Darryl, and another male witch named Aidel combined their efforts and finally stopped the Old Ones' resurrection, thus saving the world.
Over the next year, Prue remains invisible to her family while watching over them. Piper can sometimes feel her presence and constantly tries to talk to her about the things that followed after the advent: Piper has started forming a Witch Council to help witches control their own destinies rather than be controlled by superior beings; Phoebe has given birth to her third daughter, Peyton Halliwell ; and Paige was suffering a clear memory loss, but is receiving help from Phoebe and Amelia.
One night, Prue is watching over her sisters with Andy, who asks her why she doesn't appear to them to say goodbye. Prue answered with "this isn't goodbye" and closes the front door with telekinesis. Currently, she is no longer the Nexus and has lost all of its powers, but retained her original powers as a witch when she returned to the afterlife.
As the oldest sister, Prue saw herself as the maternal figure of the household, especially after her mother died and her father left. In fact, Piper and Phoebe once agreed that Prue had actually sacrificed her own childhood to help raise them, which made her become responsible and determined, but also caused her to develop a sense of caution as well as a dislike of surprises that made her slow to trust people.
Hence, though she admired Phoebe's confidence and courage, their relationship was often a tumultuous one. In fact, it was always up to Piper to mediate between Prue and Phoebe, and it took their Charmed destiny for the oldest and younger Halliwell sisters to heal their rift.
Prue was also the type of person who held onto grudges for a long time: for many years, she refused to forgive her father for abandoning her and her sisters when they were young, and she never trusted Cole fully even after he saved their lives on more than one occasion. However, when Prue came to understand the difficulties Victor encountered due to his being the only mortal in a family of witches, their relationship became more amiable, and despite her lack of trust in Cole, she was able to effectively put aside her personal feelings to work together with him in times of utter crisis.
Such instances testify that, though she might come across as unfair and harsh towards those she deemed untrustworthy, Prue was still ultimately a reasonable and flexible person. At first, Prue's duty as a Charmed One was a burden for her professional life, but she eventually started taking the initiative in hunting evil.
At one point, this determination of hers even progressed into an obsession - she believed that a break-in was the work of demons, and disregarded the idea of a human culprit.
According to Piper, Prue was known for saying " The Charmed Ones come first " when she was alive, and was always risking her life in the fight against evil. While her dedication to the good fight could be compared to Phoebe's passion for witchcraft, it still had a downside: after her death in Shax's hands, Prue's spirit was unable to completely ingratiate itself into the afterlife, as her dedication caused her to unconsciously cling to the Charmed prophecy with a fervor. This, in turn, prevented her sisters' powers from advancing further, making the Charmed Ones vulnerable to threats that should never have been able to stand against them in the first place.
Even after her resurrection in a new body, it was evident that the combination of Prue's dedication to the fight and her death had a dramatic impact on her psyche - after officially giving up her place in the Charmed circle to Paige, she demonstrated a lost, floundering side that was a far cry from the confident determined woman she had previously been, for she had grown to view herself as a " washed-out witch " who would never get her own " happily ever after ". It took both Cole and later Piper to snap her out of her turmoil, reminding her that she was always at her very best when she was with her sisters, and come what may, her family loved her dearly and would always need her.
During her final confrontation with her sisters while she was under Heremus ' influence, Prue revealed that she actually harbored an untold deal of bitterness and sorrow over her death in Shax's hands, and her subsequent inability to allow herself to move on. One constant feature about Prue would be her love for her sisters: having acted as a surrogate mother to them at a young age, she was intensely protective of them, to the extent where she would put herself in harm's way or even harm innocents with her powers to save them.
After her death, it was revealed that she had actually sorted out her last will and testament in advance for her sisters' sake. Later on, when she was presented with the opportunity to regain her former position in the Power of Three, Prue choose to strip herself of her powers in order for Paige regain her status as a Charmed One, explaining that it was her job to keep her youngest sister from making regrettable mistakes. Ultimately, Prue's love for her sisters was what saved them and the world in general - it gave her the strength to release the negative feelings she had developed from her death, and to restrain Heremus long enough for Piper to deliver the finishing blow.
The only major changes in Prue's appearance involved her hair. Although towards Season 3 her fashion sense becomes more risque and revealing. Andy Trudeau had been involved with Prue and her family since childhood. They even dated in high school, but the relationship ended when he moved to Portland. They were reunited years later, around the same time Prue became a Charmed One. However, though they did truly love each other, Prue's witchcraft responsibilities caused their romance to become an on-again-off-again relationship, and he eventually found out about her and her sisters being witches shortly before he sacrificed his own life to protect them.
Prue and Andy were presumably each other's greatest loves, and hence his death was one of her greatest losses, evidenced by the fact that she never had any permanent boyfriend after him. Prue reunited with Andy after her death. However, the bond that remained with her and her sisters tore at Prue's soul which caused her to lash out at everyone, including Andy—who was said to have suffered the most.
In late , Andy, along with the help of Prue's family and friends, was able to enter Prue's mind. They had a short reunion before the demon Heremus took over and severed Andy's connection to the physical realm. When Prue died again, she and Andy reunited and silently watched over her sisters. This makes him Prue's one true love. Tom Peters : Prue's college ex-boyfriend.
Alan Stanton : the office man from Buckland's. Jack : the cocky and friendly man. Bane : the dangerously charming man. Brendan : the ex-warlock, priest. Mitch : the guy from the past. Sean : the relationship that didn't go anywhere. Justin : the old friend of Prue's. As a child, Prue had a healthy, loving relationship with her father. He would often read her bedtime stories before going for her nap.
However, in her early childhood, Victor was forced to leave the family, due to the constant demonic attacks on his girls. It caused Prue to have a hatred towards him that lasted well into her late 20's. After not seeing him or communicating with him for over 20 years, he mysteriously comes back to San Francisco and decides to go see Prue, who at the time was working at Buckland Auction House. He brings a Protection Ring with him. Although, at the time she didn't know who he was and treated him like any other client, that was until she looked up at him and noticed who he really was.
A furious Prue demands he leave right now and tells him not to come near her or her sisters. However unknown to any of them, he was working with three shapeshifters to protect his girls.
After her encounter with Victor, she immediately meets up with her sisters and tells them the father that abandoned them is back and wants to have dinner with them. An intrigued Phoebe , meets up with him beforehand where he accidentally mistook her for Piper. They hug and she suddenly receives a premonition of Victor stealing the Book of Shadows. She leaves distraught and goes back to the manor to get ready for dinner with him tonight.
Prue however, is reluctant to go and almost misses out on it until Andy convinces her to go. Once there, she confronts him about his past and about how he left his family. Victor then puts out his leg, making a waiter trip over with a flambe for them but Piper freezes the room and saves it from falling. The room unfreezes and he notices Piper has changed positions and admits to them he knows that they are witches.
They go back to the Manor, where Victor insists on seeing the Book of Shadows again, however Prue furiously tells him no and flings him across the room.
Phoebe then tells the truth about her father and what she saw to Piper and Prue, saying Prue was right all along. The next morning, Phoebe finds Victor outside the manor, asking for her trust. He grabs onto her and has another premonition , of "Victor" stealing the Book of Shadows , however, Victor shapeshifts into Marshall , their next-door neighbor.
She runs back inside and meets her sisters there, with two more of the shapeshifters in tack. The sisters watch the video. She makes up an excuse and goes up to the attic and finds a spell to vanquish shapeshifters. However when she comes back down, one of them has changed his appearance to look like Victor, confusing her.
Both of them try to convince that the other one is fake, until the real Victor calls Prue, "Prudence. It works and leaves Victor unharmed. After everything was set straight, the sisters were meant to have lunch with him, however he was forced to go back to New York , but he left the girls a videotape of their first Christmas all together.
A couple years later, he returned, but Prue's feelings towards him were harsh again. The ice-cream truck from which Victor had saved Prue when she was little returned, and Prue, along with her sisters, knew they had to stop it once and for all; but they didn't count with demonic children escaping the truck and causing troubles in the city. The Halliwell family had to put their issues aside if they wanted to get rid of the demons.
Prue relied on her father in fixing the truck so they could trap the demons in. But in the process, Prue almost got sucked by the vanquishing entity known as the Nothing that lived inside the truck; Victor managed to pull her away and saved her. In the end, Prue and Victor solved their differences and started having an almost normal father-daughter relationship.
Prue was very protective of Piper. When they were in high school, Prue would usually be the one to overshadow Piper, while still being the one to come to her defense. Piper tried running for freshman secretary in high school, but was so nervous that Prue got up on stage and finished her speech for her.
Prue, along with Phoebe, would have normally put Piper in the middle of their arguments. While Phoebe would often challenge some of Prue's decisions, Piper on the other hand, was the one who always accepted these rules instead of objecting them.
Prue relationship with Phoebe was the opposed to the one she shared with Piper, Prue often found herself at odds with her younger sister, these discussions often ended with the two furiously arguing with each other. The two have had furious arguments with each other, more than once. Unlike Prue, Phoebe has a loud, outspoken personality that would normally put the two at odds with one another.
Prue and Phoebe's relationship was in a rocky state until they became witches, and that relationship slowly improved over time. Prue was also somewhat intimidating towards Phoebe when Phoebe worried about disappointing her, such as neglecting to tell Prue bad news like when she ran Prue's car into a poll, or telling Prue last about Cole being alive.
This is probably due to the fact that Prue acted as her mother throughout her childhood. Still, Prue loves Phoebe, was open to listening to Phoebe if she had any problems whether magic-related or not. Prue would be willing to do anything to protect her. Prue had graduated with honors from Gold State University, and proved to be an expert at the jobs she applied, showing herself to be an accomplished and skillful woman, not only in the magical world, but also in the mortal world.
Given how she later demonstrated expert martial-arts skills that surpassed even those of her sister, Phoebe who was the only Charmed One shown on screen to have taken self-defense classes , it is also possible that she had taken up the study of martial arts in her school years, and hence emerged as an extremely effective combatant.

Now is everyone a demon, Prue? Statistically, most TV shows are lucky to get a second season, much less run for nearly a decade. That's even despite a major cast change partway through, when Shannen Doherty left Charmed amid reports of fights with her co-stars, particularly Alyssa Milano.
Losing a lead character can be death for a TV show, but Charmed killed off Prue and subbed in Rose McGowan's Paige, and most fans really didn't seem to mind. That wasn't necessarily the case when Charmed tried to shove in Kaley Cuoco's Billie during season 8, but one can't win them all, and Cuoco went on to huge fame on The Big Bang Theory anyway. While all four sisters appeared perpetually youthful throughout Charmed 's run, father time comes for everyone, and sister witches are no different.
Here's how old Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige were at the beginning and end of the classic series. Following Prue's death at the end of Charmed season 4, her obituary confirmed her birth date as being October 28, Charmed always appeared to be taking place in the real time when it aired - sans trips through of time of course - so that places Prue at years-old when the show premiered on October 7, , just shy of turning Prue's final episode aired on May 17, , meaning she was killed at the tragically young age of
