Also, when their enemies take the route to Philippi, they will probably side with the enemy to get more people. Julius Caesar is a tragedy, as it tells the story of an honorable hero who makes several critical errors of judgment by misreading people and events, leading to his own death and a bloody civil war that consumes his nation. Although the play is structured like a classical tragedy and borrows its plot and themes from history, the blend of the two genres results in a play that is notable and unique for the Elizabethan period.

Marcus Brutus is a tragic hero because he has gone through a catastrophe which is when he realized the conspirators killed Caesar for the wrong reasons and that he being such a noble person has gotten involved with so many bad people.

Another reason he is a tragic hero is because of his ancestor Junius Brutus. In Julius Caesar Brutus displays the traits of a tragic hero through out this play. His tragic flaw is his being too naive. He makes an error in judgment, and when this error occurred it causes his own downfall.

But Brutus causes his own downfall when after killing Caesar all of Rome turns against the conspirators. Modern authors may take more creative licenses in creating their tragic heroes, but many contemporary reiterations of the tragic hero are based off these six traits. Honor in Julius Caesar is synonymous with bravery and selflessness. This is why Brutus is considered honorable by nearly every character in the play: he is earnestly committed to public service and the overall good of his country.

As with Brutus, honor for Caesar means bravery and strength. Why does Antony compare Lepidus to a donkey? Why does he feel this way?
